Parks, Zoo and Gardens in T & T

Heyyy guys, whats up? If you are ever in need of a park, garden or zoo for a family outing or just in the mood for some outdoor activity to soak up the sweet Trini sun, below are a list of hot spots to enjoy your adventure. Asa Wright Nature Centre

Located in the mountains, 7 mi (11 km) north of Arima, the Asa Wright Nature Centre is a 1,500-acre (607 ha) forested conservation area, home to hundreds of species of birds, native wildlife and tropical plants. The centre features numerous walking trails, a bird-watching verandah and restaurant. Guided tours are available.

Caroni Lagoon National Park

The Caroni Lagoon National Park, otherwise known as Caroni Swamp is a 20-sq-mi (52 sq km) mangrove wetland home to approximately 200 species of birds--including Trinidad's national bird, the Scarlet Ibis--and other wildlife. Boat tours are available.

Matura National Park

Matura National Park encompasses 9,000 ha (22,239 acres) of primary tropical forest, mountains and rivers, and is home to rare and endangered wildlife, including the pawi bird and ocelot.

Emperor Valley Zoo and the Botanical Gardens

Designed in 1820 for Governor Ralph Woodford, this 8 acre zoo exhibits a variety of animals from the scarlet ibis to anacondas and pythons to wild parrots.

Palmiste National Park

This 40-acre (16 ha) park is situated on the edge of San Fernando and provides an ideal setting for outdoor recreation. Features include a heart-shaped pond, jogging pathway, picnic areas, gardens, nature trails, fields and parking facilities.

San Fernando Hill

The San Fernando Hill rises approximately 180 m (590 ft) above the central city, its knobbly shape the result of past quarrying activity. On a clear day, views stretch to the Northern Range and Venezuela. The site also boasts a recreation and picnic area.

Scarborough Botanical Gardens

Featuring 17 acres (6.9 ha) of tropical and exotic plants, trees and shrubs, the Scarborough Botanical Gardens is a calm, natural oasis in the centre of town and can be accessed off the Claude Noel Highway.

Fort King George, Scarborough

Built in the 1780s, this is Tobago’s best-preserved historical site. The early prison, bell tank, several cannons, barracks and officers’ mess are located within well-manicured grounds with magnificent coastal views.

Adventure Farm & Nature Reserve

The Adventure Farm and Nature Reserve is a 12-acre property that features tropical gardens and an organic farm, and is an ideal destination for bird watchers, nature lovers and garden enthusiasts.
